1740‐1817 German pietist, ophthalmologist, and financial scholar. His real name was Johann Heinrich Jung. The first of his six-volume Autobiography (1777-1817), in which he acknowledged God's constant guidance in life, was praised by Goethe, and his novel Nostalgia (1794-97) influenced the religious awakening movement. He was interested in dreams and prophecies, and wrote works such as Theory of Spiritualism (1808).
