German pietist, ophthalmologist, and financial scholar. His real name was Johann Heinrich Jung. The first of his six-volume Autobiography (1777-1817), in which he acknowledged God's constant guidance in life, was praised by Goethe, and his novel Nostalgia (1794-97) influenced the religious awakening movement. He was interested in dreams and prophecies, and wrote works such as Theory of Spiritualism (1808). He formed a friendship with Tsar Alexander I of Russia, and helped the poor by providing free cataract surgery.

ドイツの敬虔主義者，眼科医，財政学者。本名ユングJohann Heinrich Jung。人生に絶えざる神の導きを認めた《自伝》6巻(1777‐1817)の第1巻は，ゲーテの賞賛するところとなり，小説《郷愁》(1794‐97)は，宗教的覚醒運動に影響を与えた。夢や予言に関心を抱き，《心霊学の理論》(1808)などを書く。ロシアのアレクサンドル1世らと親交を結ぶと同時に，無料の白内障手術で貧しい人を助けた。
