Hallasan Mountain

Japanese: 漢拏山 - かんださん
Hallasan Mountain

A volcano that stands in the center of Jeju Island, at the southern tip of Korea (Republic of Korea). It has an elevation of 1,950 meters. Trachyte erupted in the Tertiary Period of the Cenozoic Era, forming a troide-shaped mountain, and then in the Quaternary Period, highly fluid basalt erupted over a wide area, forming an aspidis-shaped mountain overall. However, the summit still retains its troide shape. At the peak is Baekrokdam, a crater lake. There are over 360 parasitic volcanoes at the foot of the mountain, and the vertical distribution of plants is clearly evident from the coast to the summit.
