In 1888, he broke with Danjūrō, and the following year he barricaded himself in the Ichimuraza, opposing the Nakamuraza daiichi troupe led by Danjūrō, and wrote plays such as Irojō Gomitsugu Misoga for young actors. In 1876 (An'ei 5), a plot to make his son the successor to the Nakamuraza head troupe was discovered, and he disappeared from the public eye of theatrical circles for the next ten years, controlling the writers from behind the scenes as a relative of the Ichimuraza. …
