Dream sea cucumber - Enypniastes eximia

Japanese: ユメナマコ(夢海鼠) - ユメナマコ（英語表記）Enypniastes eximia

An echinoderm of the family Holothuridae in the class Holothuria. A large deep-sea floating sea cucumber, it has been collected from depths of 300 to 2,000 m in Suruga Bay, Kii Channel, and New Zealand. It is 15 to 20 cm long, with a flat ventral surface and a raised dorsal surface, with the front part about 4 cm high. When alive, it is bright red, but after capture, the color fades over time and pale red and green spots appear here and there. The mouth is located near the front end of the ventral surface, and there are 20 tentacles around it.

ナマコ綱ウキナマコ科の棘皮（きよくひ）動物。深海中で浮遊する大型のナマコで，駿河湾，紀伊水道，ニュージーランドの水深300～2000mから採集されている。体長15～20cmで，腹面は扁平，背面は盛り上がって前部の高さは4cmほどになる。生きているときは鮮やかな赤色であるが，捕獲後，時間がたつにつれて色があせ，ところどころにうす赤や緑色の斑点が現れてくる。口は腹面の前端付近にあり，その周囲に20本の触手がある。
