Judas Iscariot

Judas Iscariot
One of the so-called "Twelve disciples" of Jesus who "betrayed Jesus" (Mark 3:19). The exact meaning of "Iscariot" is unknown, but it is thought to mean "a man from Kariot (Kerioto Hezron in Joshua 15:25)." The Gospel of John tells us that his father's name was Simon (6:71 and others), and that Judas himself was the treasurer of Jesus' group of disciples (12:6). In the so-called "Synoptic Gospels" of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, Judas promised the chief priests in advance to hand Jesus over to them in exchange for money, and betrayed him "with a kiss" when Jesus and others came to the Garden of Gethsemane after the "Last Supper."
