Oil-based paint - Yuseitoryo (English spelling) oil paint

A general term for paints whose main ingredients are drying oils and resins. There are the following: (1) Paints made by heating drying or semi-drying oils such as linseed oil, linseed oil, and soybean oil, and partially oxidizing them in air to produce what is known as boiled oil, with pigments kneaded into the oil. (2) Oil varnish, made by heating and reacting natural resins (such as pine resin) or processed resins (such as ester gum) with drying oil, and dissolving the resulting mixture in a solvent. (3) A general term for oil enamel, made by dispersing pigments in oil varnish.

Oil-based paints are easy to work with, have no solvent odor, and can be applied thickly, so they are mainly used for architectural purposes (wood and iron). However, they have drawbacks in terms of drying time, hardness, gloss, and smoothness of the paint film, so to compensate for these, they are modified with various synthetic resins.

乾性油、樹脂類を主成分とする塗料の総称。次のようなものがある。（1）あまに油、しなきり油、大豆油などの乾性油ないし半乾性油を加熱して、部分的に空気酸化したいわゆるボイル油に顔料を練り込んだ塗料。（2）天然樹脂（松脂(まつやに)など）または加工樹脂（エステルガムなど）と乾性油を加熱反応させ、これを溶剤に溶かした油性ワニスoil varnish。（3）油性ワニスに顔料を分散させた油性エナメルoil enamelなどの総称。

　油性塗料は作業性がよく、溶剤の臭気がなく、また厚塗りが可能なのでおもに建築用（木部や鉄部）に用いられているが、乾燥性、硬さ、光沢、塗膜の平滑さに欠点があり、これを補うためにいろいろな合成樹脂によって変性されている。
