A former town in Tome County, located in northern Miyagi Prefecture, bordering Iwate Prefecture. The town produces rice such as Sasanishiki, and also cultivates vegetables, fruit, and livestock. The main settlement, Ishinomori, is the commercial center. In April 2005, the town merged with Sako Town, Tome Town, Towa Town, Toyosato Town, Yoneyama Town, Ishikoshi Town, and Minamikata Town in Tome County, and Tsuyama Town in Motoyoshi County, to become Tome City. 宮城県北部，岩手県境に接する登米(とめ)郡の旧町。ササニシキなどの米を産し，野菜・果樹栽培，畜産も行う。主集落石森(いしのもり)は商業の中心。2005年４月登米郡迫町，登米町，東和町，豊里町，米山町，石越町，南方町，本吉郡津山町と合併し市制，登米市となる。62.23km2。１万7121人（2003）。
