A former town in Tome County, located in northern Miyagi Prefecture, bordering Iwate Prefecture. The town produces rice such as Sasanishiki, and also cultivates vegetables, fruit, and livestock. The main settlement, Ishinomori, is the commercial center. In April 2005, the town merged with Sako Town, Tome Town, Towa Town, Toyosato Town, Yoneyama Town, Ishikoshi Town, and Minamikata Town in Tome County, and Tsuyama Town in Motoyoshi County, to become Tome City.
