...Population: 116,322 (1995). In 1981, the center of Naju County merged with Yeongsanpo to form Geumseong City, but in 1986 the city changed its name to Naju City, and in 1995 Naju City merged with Naju County. The name Jeolla Province is a combination of Jeonju, the center of Jeollabuk-do, and Naju itself.
