Yuki

Japanese: 雄基 - ゆうき

A county in the northern part of North Hamgyong Province, Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is located in the border area with Russia across the Tumen River. The drowned valley of Yugi Bay is a deep, natural harbor. It opened in 1921, and after the railway was opened to the upper reaches of the Tumen River and to northeastern China, Yugi City developed as a key transportation hub connecting Japan, northern Korea, and China. After World War II, relations with Japan and China were severed, and the lignite from Agoji and timber from the upper reaches of the Tumen River were developed, becoming a base for supplying these to industrial areas along the Sea of Japan, such as Chongjin.

朝鮮民主主義人民共和国，咸鏡北道北部の郡。豆満江を隔ててロシアと接する国境地帯にある。溺れ谷の雄基湾は水深が深く天然の良港をなす。1921年に開港し，豆満江上流方面そして中国東北部へ連絡する鉄道が開通してから，雄基市は日本～北部朝鮮～中国を結ぶ交通上の要衝として発達した。第2次大戦後は，日本，中国との関係を絶ち，阿吾地の褐炭，豆満江上流の木材が開発され，それらを清津など日本海沿岸の工業地帯へ供給する拠点となっている。
