A ronin military scholar of the early Edo period. The mastermind of the Keian Incident. He is said to have been born as the son of a dyer in Yui, Suruga, or Miyagasaki, Suruga. He went to Edo and taught military science to vassals of shogunate vassals and feudal lords at a back store in Renjaku-cho, Kanda, and gathered many disciples. However, he did not accept invitations from daimyo, and only took on one daimyo as a disciple, other than ITAKURA Shigemasa. In 1651 (Keian 4), he planned a rebellion against the shogunate, criticizing the shogunate and saving the hatamoto, and gathered many ronin. In July, he went to Sunpu with nine of his comrades to put his plan into action, and tried to steal the money left by Tokugawa Ieyasu from Mount Kuno, but the plan was discovered before he could carry it out, and he was surrounded by the men of the Sunpu town magistrate while at the Umeya inn in Sunpu, and took his own life on the morning of the 26th.

江戸前期の浪人軍学者。慶安事件の首謀者。駿河由比の紺屋の子として生まれたとも,駿河宮ヶ崎の生れともいわれる。江戸へ出て,神田の連雀町の裏店(うらだな)で旗本や大名の家臣に軍学を教え,数多くの弟子を集めた。しかし,大名からの招きには応じず,板倉重昌以外の大名を弟子としなかった。1651年(慶安4)幕閣への批判と旗本の救済とを掲げて,幕府に対する謀反計画を立て,多くの浪人を集める。7月計画を実行に移すため同志9人と駿府へ下り,久能山の徳川家康の遺金を奪おうとするが,実行前に事が発覚し,駿府の旅宿梅屋にいるところを,駿府町奉行の手のものに取り囲まれ,26日朝,みずから命を断った。
