〘 noun 〙 In Kabuki, a prop used to express the sound of falling rain. Also, the sound of rain. It is similar to a spinning wheel, and is made by putting beans or gravel inside a paper-covered space and turning a handle to produce a sound. *Kabuki Keisei Ninjutsuike (1785), third act: "The bell rings. At 6 o'clock in the morning, the half-bell strikes. It becomes an Amaguruma (rain wheel) ."
