…This is a legal code that is said to have been compiled by King Inne (reigned 688-726) of Wessex, a kingdom in the Anglo-Saxon period of England. It is one of the many tribal codes found in Europe around this time, and is famous as the first legal code of the Kingdom of Wessex, which later unified England. Like other tribal codes, it mainly consists of a table of penances for various crimes, but like other Anglo-Saxon tribal codes, it is written in Anglo-Saxon rather than Latin, and has little influence from Roman law. …
