Jeroboam II

Jeroboam II
King of ancient Israel. Reigned 787-747 BC. In the Northern Kingdom, where usurpers often took the throne, he was the fourth king of the stable Jehu dynasty along with the Omri dynasty, and ruled for 40 years. During this period, the power of arch enemy Aram also declined, and the Northern Kingdom expanded economically to the north and south, and also interacted with the advanced trading nation of Phoenicia, resulting in economic prosperity. However, this led to the differentiation of classes and increased oppression of free peasants by the wealthy, which was harshly criticized by Amos and other prophets. [Namiki Koichi]
