1367-1435 (Shohei 22, Joji 6-Eikyo 7) A military commander in the Muromachi period. Son of Tokiyoshi. Posthumous name Jōyōki. In 1389 (6th year of the Genchū period, 1st year of the Kōō period), when Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu made a pilgrimage to Itsukushima, he was welcomed and entertained in Onomichi on his way back. At Yoshimitsu's command, he was pursued by Yamana Ujikiyo and Mitsuyuki, but after Ujikiyo and his allies were defeated in the Meitoku War, he became head of the Yamana clan and obtained the position of Tajima Shugōshiki. During the Oei War, his clan played an active role in the attack on Sakai Castle in Izumi, and after the war he was given the positions of Shugōshiki of Bingo (Tsunehisa), Iwami (Ujitoshi), and Aki (Mitsuuji), and his clan surrounded Ouchi Morimi (younger brother of Yoshihiro) in both Bungo and Choshu provinces, forcing Morimi and his supporters, the local lords of Aki, to submit to him.
