The main component of pine resin. A general term for resins whose main component is resin acids such as abietic acid C ₂ (/0)H ₃ (/0)O _2. It is obtained by steam distillation of pine resin to remove turpentine (gum rosin), by solvent extraction from pine wood or pine stumps (wood rosin), or as a by-product of making pulp from pine wood using the Kraft method (tall rosin). A pale yellow to brown, transparent, brittle solid. It melts at 100-135°C and is soluble in organic solvents. Applications of resin acids include paper sizes, varnishes, printing inks, bases for bandages, and rubber softeners.

松脂(まつやに)の主成分。アビエチン酸C₂(/0)H₃(/0)O₂などの樹脂酸を主成分とする樹脂の総称。松脂を水蒸気蒸留してテレビン油を除く（ガムロジン）か，またはマツ材，マツの切株から溶剤抽出する（ウッドロジン）か，マツ材からクラフト法でパルプをつくるときの副産物（トールロジン）として得られる。淡黄〜褐色透明なもろい固体。100〜135℃で融解，有機溶剤に可溶。樹脂酸の用途は製紙用サイズ，ワニス，印刷インキ，絆創膏(ばんそうこう)などの基剤，ゴム軟化剤など。
