A medieval samurai family originating from Yamanaka, Koka County, Omi Province (present-day Tsuchiyama, Koka County, Shiga Prefecture). One of the 21 Koka families. Said to be descendants of Tachibana Moroe, they took the name Yamanaka during the reign of Yoshikiyo. In 1216 (Kenpo 4), Toshinao handed over the position of Yamanaka village land steward and the name of Kashiwagi Mikuriya to Toshinobu, but there are many unknowns about their activities during the Heian and Kamakura periods. However, given that Aritoshi served as the chief guard in Toshinobu's place in 67 (Bun'ei 4), it seems certain that they were retainers. During the Nanboku-cho civil war, Michitoshi and Yoritsune were active and acquired many territories and positions. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
