Kallikak family

Japanese: カリカック家 - カリカックけ（英語表記）Kallikak family

This family is known for being the subject of HH G. Goddard's research into the hereditary nature of mental retardation and antisocial behavior in 1912. Kallikak (a pseudonym) was a British aristocrat who participated in the American War of Independence and had an illegitimate child with a mentally retarded woman. Over the next five generations, 480 descendants were born to this family. Of the 189 people who could be surveyed, 143 (75.7%) were mentally retarded, alcoholics, or criminals, and only 46 were normal.

精神遅滞や反社会的行動の遺伝性に関する研究の対象として，1912年にゴダードH.H.Goddardが取りあげたことで知られる家系。カリカック(仮名)はイギリスの貴族であったが，アメリカ独立戦争に参加して精神遅滞の女性との間に私生児をもうけた。この家系には，その後5代にわたり480人の子孫が生まれた。そのうち調査可能であった189人中，75.7％に当たる143人が精神遅滞やアルコール中毒や犯罪者で，正常者はわずかに46人であった。
