A town in Higashi Shirakawa District, southern Fukushima Prefecture. It occupies the mountainous area upstream of the Kuji River. It produces rice, konjac, and timber, and also cultivates flowers. Higashidate, the center of the town, is a village along National Route 118, through which the Suigun Line passes. It is home to the scenic Yamatsuriyama Mountain and the Kuji River Valley. 福島県南部，東白川郡の町。久慈川上流部の山地を占める。米，コンニャク，木材を産し，花卉(かき)の栽培も行う。中心の東舘は国道118号線に沿う街村で水郡(すいぐん)線が通じる。景勝の矢祭山，久慈川渓谷がある。東日本大震災で，町内において被害が発生。118.27km2。6348人（2010）。
