Jilin Province - Jilin

Japanese: 吉林[省] - きつりん
Jilin Province - Jilin
A province in northeastern China. Its abbreviated name is Ji. It borders Russia's Primorsky Krai and Korea to the southeast, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the west. Its capital is Changchun. The Changbai Mountains stretch across the southeast, and the Second Songhua River and Tumen River basins form fertile plains. The climate is continental and cold. A well-developed railway network includes Changda, Changbin, Changbai, and Changtu, and water transportation is often used outside of the freezing season. It is an important grain-producing region (wheat, sorghum, soybeans), where mechanized agriculture is quite widespread. It is rich in timber, marten furs, ginseng, various medicinal materials, and mineral resources such as coal, gold, silver, and copper, and large-scale hydroelectric power generation from the Fengman Dam on the Songhua River and other facilities is the foundation that supports heavy industry in northeastern China. Changchun's automobile and machinery industries and Jilin's chemical industry are large in scale. There are many Korean immigrants in the Yanji area in the east, which forms the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, but there are also many Manchu, Hui and Mongolian peoples in the province. The area is 187,400 km2 . The population is 27.02 million (2014).
