…Until the Meiji period, it belonged to Hyuga Province, was controlled by the Kimotsuki clan in the Middle Ages, and became the property of the Shimazu clan in the 16th century. Arasa in the northern Nogata district was developed during the Genroku period (1688-1704) by immigrants from Settsu Province. Paddy fields are cultivated on the alluvial plains, and the plateau is now farmland, mainly used for cultivating sweet potatoes. …
