Schweitzer

Japanese: シュワイツァー
Schweitzer
Born in Alsace, he was a German Protestant theologian, philosopher, musician, and doctor. His father was a Lutheran pastor, and he studied theology and philosophy at the University of Strasbourg, where he became a lecturer in theology in 1902. In "A History of the Study of the Life of Jesus" (1906), he argued for the eschatological nature of Jesus' teachings, and wrote "A History of the Study of Paul." Following his decision at the age of 21 to "enter into direct service to humanity," he studied medicine in 1905 and obtained his doctor's license. In 1913, he built a hospital in Lambaréné, Gabon (then French Equatorial Africa), and devoted his life to medicine and evangelism. One of the works that focused on his early activities was "Between Water and Primeval Forest." He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952. As a musician, he wrote the standard work on Bach, "JS Bach" (1905), and also played the organ. In the field of philosophy, he wrote Cultural Philosophy (1923), which discussed the ethics of "reverence for life."
