This is a research institute run by a foundation located in Mount Koya, Abiko City , Chiba Prefecture. It was originally the Yamashina Ornithological Museum, which was established in 1932 by Yamashina Yoshimaro in his private residence in Nanpeidai, Shibuya, Tokyo, and was renamed in 1932. It moved to its current location in 1984. It conducts research into the ecology and classification of birds, and collects and displays materials. 千葉県我孫子市高野山(こうのやま)にある財団法人の研究所。昭和七年(一九三二)山階芳麿が東京渋谷南平台の私邸内に設立した山階鳥類標本館を同一七年に改称。同五九年現在地に移転。鳥類の生態・分類などの研究や資料の収集・公開などを行なっている。
