Yamaguchi Festival
〘Noun〙① The first event in the construction of the Ise Grand Shrine's Sengu. It is held when timber is cut down on Misomayama . In the past, it was held in October three years before the Sengu, but there have been some changes along the way. Misomayama was originally within the grounds of the shrine, but now the mountains of Kiso are used for it. A festival for the Yamaguchi god. 〘名〙① 伊勢神宮遷宮の造営の際の最初の行事。御杣山(みそまやま)で用材を伐り出すにあたって行なわれる。古くは遷宮の三年前の一〇月に行なったが、途中変遷がみられる。御杣山はもとは神宮域内であったが、今は木曾の山をそれにあてる。山口の神のまつり。やまぐちさい。※皇太神宮儀式帳(804)「用新造正殿地鎮料并山口祭、木本祭等」② 杣工(そまく)やきこりが山から木を伐り出す時、または狩猟する人が山にはいる時、その山の入口で山神をまつる祭。《季・秋》※東大寺続要録(1281‐1300頃)寺領章「山口祭二段三百歩」
