〘名〙① 伊勢神宮遷宮の造営の際の最初の行事。御杣山(みそまやま)で用材を伐り出すにあたって行なわれる。古くは遷宮の三年前の一〇月に行なったが、途中変遷がみられる。御杣山はもとは神宮域内であったが、今は木曾の山をそれにあてる。山口の神のまつり。やまぐちさい。※皇太神宮儀式帳（804）「用_二新造正殿地鎮料并山口祭、木本祭等_一」② 杣工(そまく)やきこりが山から木を伐り出す時、または狩猟する人が山にはいる時、その山の入口で山神をまつる祭。《季・秋》※東大寺続要録（1281‐1300頃）寺領章「山口祭二段三百歩」
