A district on the right bank of the Yahagi River in the west of Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture. Formerly known as Yahagi Town, it was a key transportation hub that developed due to the ferry across the Yahagi River and its market. Even today, the Nagoya Railroad Nagoya Main Line and National Route 1 pass through the area. The name of the area comes from the story of how Emperor Yamato Takeru had people make arrows out of native bamboo to drive away bandits during his expedition to the east. It is also one of the locations in the legend of "The Tale of Princess Jorurihime" (Twelve Stages), where Minamoto no Yoshitsune, who was on his way to Oshu, made a promise to spend a night with the daughter of a local wealthy man.
