Ryukei Yano

Japanese: 矢野竜渓 - やのりゅうけい

1851 ^* - 1931 A journalist and newspaper owner from the Meiji to Taisho era.
Born December 1, 1850. After serving as deputy editor-in-chief of the Yubin Hochi Shimbun, he joined the Ministry of Finance in 1878, and rose to the position of chief secretary of the Dajokan. In 1881, he followed Okuma Shigenobu in retiring from the ministry. He conspired with Okuma to buy the Yubin Hochi Shimbun, became its president, and participated in the formation of the Constitutional Reform Party. In 1881, he published the political novel Keikoku Bidan (A Beautiful Story of a Man in a State of Economic Reform). In 1935, he became an envoy to Qing (China). Later, he became vice president of the Osaka Mainichi Shimbun Company. He passed away on June 18, 1931, at the age of 82. He was born in Bungo (Oita Prefecture) and graduated from Keio University. His real name was Fumio. His works include New Society.

嘉永(かえい)3年12月1日生まれ。「郵便報知新聞」副主筆をへて,明治11年大蔵省にはいり,太政官大書記官にすすむ。14年大隈(おおくま)重信にしたがって退官。大隈とはかって「郵便報知新聞」を買収,社長となり,立憲改進党結成に参加。16年政治小説「経国美談」を出版。30年清(しん)(中国)公使。のち大阪毎日新聞社副社長。昭和6年6月18日死去。82歳。豊後(ぶんご)(大分県)出身。慶応義塾卒。本名は文雄。著作に「新社会」など。
