A pair of golden cups were discovered at the Tholos on a hill of the same name south of Sparta in Greece. Both are cup-shaped with vertical sides that taper slightly downwards and a flat handle attached horizontally to the rim. Both have a diameter of 10.8 cm, but there is a small difference in height, 7.9 cm and 8.4 cm. They are famous for the magnificent reliefs that cover the entire sides of the vessels, using the hammered technique. Both depict the capture of cattle. One of the cups shows a scene in which wild cattle are caught in a net, one escaping by catching its captor with its horns, and the other running away.
