A general term for small to medium-sized insects belonging to the Tachinidae family of the Diptera order. They are also called parasitic flies. They are closely related to flies of the Flesh Flies and Calliphoridae families, but in addition to differences in external appearance, their larvae are mainly internal parasites of other insects, and their adults do not gather on decaying materials, but live by licking nectar from flowers and honeydew from aphids. About 7,000 species are known from all over the world, but in fact many species remain undescribed, and it is said that this family has the largest number of species among the Diptera order.
