The Canadian portion of the Rocky Mountains in the northwest of North America. It is about 2000 km long. Its highest peak is Mount Robson (3954 m), and its peaks are over 3000 m. It is generally lower in altitude than the American portion of the Rocky Mountains, but the number and volume of existing glaciers is far greater. In a narrower sense, it can also refer to the southern half of the border between British Columbia and Alberta, with Jasper and Banff National Parks at its centre. This area displays magnificent mountain and glacial topography, and the Swiss Alps-like landscape stretches for hundreds of kilometres, making it Canada's premier tourist destination.
