Pinching - Tekishin (English spelling)

Pinching - Tekishin (English spelling)
A type of pruning that removes the central bud of a plant. In the case of fruit trees, pinching the tops of the trees to a certain extent can help the fruit grow better. However, pinching too hard can cause the secondary shoots to grow too fast, depriving the fruit of nutrients and water, resulting in more fruit drop. In recent years, research has been conducted into labor-saving methods that use growth retardants (such as B9 or CCC) to prevent the shoots from growing too long and prevent physiological disorders of the fruit. Pinching is used to suppress growth and promote flowering and fruit set, as well as to improve leaf quality in plants such as tobacco, and to develop lateral branches to increase the number of fruits in plants such as soybeans and cowpeas.
