A general term for arthropods of the order Acarina, group Gamasina, group Parasitoids (broadly referring to the suborder Parasitoids). Body length 0.3-1.3mm, colorless to brown. The first leg is often thinner and longer than the other legs. It has two claws. Their ecology is diverse, and includes house mites, red mites, and budworms that parasitize the surface of animals' bodies, brown mites that parasitize the bodies of animals, as well as brown mites, anemones, and phytoseiid mites that prey on pests such as spider mites on plants, and dust mites that prey on other small insects in the soil. 蛛形（ちゆけい）綱ダニ目ヤドリダニ団Gamasinaの節足動物の総称(広義にはヤドリダニ亜目を指す)。体長0.3～1.3mm，無色～褐色。第1脚は他の脚よりも細く長いことが多い。つめは2本。生態はさまざまで，動物の体表に寄生するイエダニ，ワクモ，トゲダニ，体内に寄生するハイダニ，ハナダニ，植物体上でハダニなどの害虫を捕食してくれるカブリダニ，土壌中で他の小虫を捕食するホコダニなどがいる。【青木淳一】
