Axe - Axe

A county-level city in the western part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. It is located on the banks of the Aksu River in the northwest of the Tarim Basin. It is the seat of the Aksu District government office and has a permanent population of 507,700 (2015). Industries such as wool and felt manufacturing have developed, and cotton, mulberry, and rice cultivation in paddy fields opened by the Agricultural Reclamation Construction Corps after the founding of the People's Republic of China are thriving. Walnuts are a specialty product. Rock salt known as "crystal salt" and "ice salt" is also famous. Aksu Airport is located in the north of the city. During the Han dynasty, it belonged to the states of Gumo and Wensu, and was one of the bases on the Silk Road.

中国、新疆(しんきょう)ウイグル自治区西部にある県級市。タリム盆地の北西部、アクス川沿岸にある。アクス地区の公署所在地で、常住人口50万7700（2015）。毛糸、フェルト製造などの工業が発達し、ワタ、クワや、中華人民共和国成立後、農業開墾建設兵団によって開かれた水田での水稲栽培が盛んで、クルミは特産である。「水晶塩」や「氷塩」とよばれる岩塩も有名。市北部にアクス空港がある。漢代には姑墨(こぼく)や温宿国に属し、シルク・ロードの拠点の一つであった。
