…He studied at Harvard, London, and Vienna, and later became an assistant professor at Harvard, but left the university for ideological reasons. Since 1949, he has been an editor of the monthly magazine Monthly Review: An Independent Socialist Magazine together with L. Huberman (and after his death H. Magdoff), and has been engaged in a wide range of critical activities. In his paper Demand in Oligopoly (1939), which made him famous as a modern economist, he presented the theory of the inflected demand curve, which explained the rigidity of oligopoly prices, and made a great contribution to the analysis of the behavior of oligopoly companies. However, his interest moved from microstatic theory to macrodynamic analysis, and through his internal criticism of Keynesian economics, he leaned towards Marxian economics. …
