Shrine [town] - Yashiro

Japanese: 社[町] - やしろ

An old town in Kato County, located in the central-southern part of Hyogo Prefecture, on the left bank of the midstream Kakogawa River. The Chugoku Expressway runs through the town. The main settlement along National Route 372 is Torii-mae-cho at Saho Shrine, and it developed as a post town on the Tamba Highway. It has long been a producer of rice for sake brewing, and tourist farms are also thriving. It is home to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, the 25th temple of the Thirty-three Temples of the Western Provinces, and Hyogo University of Teacher Education. In March 2006, it merged with Takino Town and Tojo Town in Kato County to become a city. It has an area of 87.40 ^km2 and a population of 21,004 (2003).

兵庫県中南部，加古川中流左岸を占める加東郡の旧町。中国自動車道が通じる。国道372号線に沿う主集落は佐保神社の鳥居前町，丹波街道の宿場町として発達。古くからの酒造米産地で，観光農園も盛ん。西国三十三所25番札所清水寺，兵庫教育大学がある。2006年３月，加東郡滝野町，東条町と合併し市制，加東市となる。87.40km²。２万1004人（2003）。
