Tsuyama [town]

Japanese: 津山[町] - つやま

A former town in Motoyoshi County in the northeast of Miyagi Prefecture. Most of the area is hilly, and sericulture and forestry are carried out here. Yanaizu, the town in the center, is located near the point where the Kitakami River and the Shinkitakami River flow, where the Ichinoseki Highway and Higashihama Highway branch off and the Kesennuma Line passes through. It is home to the Yokoyama Dace habitat (a natural monument). In April 2005, it merged with the towns of Sako, Tome, Towa, Nakata, Toyosato, Yoneyama, Ishigoe, and Minamikata in Tome County to become a city. 68.14 ^km2 . Population: 4,303 (2003).

宮城県北東部，本吉郡の旧町。大部分が丘陵地で，養蚕，林業を行う。中心の柳津(やないづ)は北上川と新北上川分流点付近にあり，一関街道と東浜街道が分岐，気仙沼線が通じる。横山のウグイ生息地（天然記念物）がある。2005年４月登米郡迫町，登米町，東和町，中田町，豊里町，米山町，石越町，南方町と合併し市制，登米市となる。68.14km²。4303人（2003）。
