A type of kettle. It is a container with a spout and handle like a clay pot or iron pot, especially those made of copper, brass, or anodized aluminum, and is characterized by its quick boiling. The character for "yakukan" first appeared in literature in 1444 (Bun'an 1) in the Gegakushu, and the word "yakan" is the pronunciation of this yakukan. In the Edo period, it was also called yukan. As the name suggests, a kettle was originally a tool for boiling medicines, but when a separate medicine pot came to be used for boiling medicines, it is said that in the Edo period, kettles came to be used exclusively for boiling tea.
