A mountain range that makes up the Auvergne Volcanoes, located in the center of the Massif Central region of France. It has a diverse volcanic topography, including crater lakes and dammed lakes. Its highest peak is the Puy de Sancy (1,886m above sea level), the highest in the Massif Central. It forms the source of the Dordogne River, and the valleys of the Dordogne highlands have been eroded by ice. This region also has hot springs that have been known since Roman times, making it a center for winter sports and tourism.
