Atsumi ware

Japanese: 渥美焼 - あつみやき

Medieval pottery produced on the Atsumi Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture from the end of the Heian period through to the Kamakura period. Approximately 100 groups and nearly 500 ancient kiln sites are known, concentrated at the base of the peninsula and around Ashigaike Pond in the center. Products consist mainly of vases, mortars, mortars, and mountain tea bowls, but specialty items include pottery with a three-line pattern, such as kesadasukimon and lotus petal patterns. A sacred jar bearing the inscriptions of Mikawa provincial governor Fujiwara Akinaga and Tonokiyo was excavated from the Oarako kiln site. 愛知県の渥美半島において，平安時代末から鎌倉時代にかけて焼かれた中世陶器。約100群，500基近い古窯跡が知られており，半島基部と中央の芦ヶ池周辺に集中している。製品は壺，甕，擂鉢（すりばち），山茶碗を主とするが，特殊品として袈裟襷文（けさだすきもん），蓮弁文などの三筋文系陶器を焼いている。大アラコ窯跡からは三河国司藤原顕長･遠清銘の尊霊壺が出土している。また伊良湖地区に東大寺瓦窯跡群がある。【楢崎彰一】
