Xiangjiang River

The largest river in Hunan Province, China, and one of the tributaries of the Yangtze River (Changjiang). It originates at the western foot of Haiyan Mountain in the eastern part of Lingchuan County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, flows north through the eastern part of Hunan Province, passing through cities such as Hengyang, Zhuzhou, Xiangtan, and Changsha, and flows into Dongting Lake at Lulintan, Xiangyin County, and then into the Yangtze River. Its total length is 856 km, and its drainage area is 94,600 square km. Its drainage basin accounts for about 40% of the total area of ​​Hunan Province. There are many tributaries, including the Xiao River, the Zhongling River, the Lai River, the Beisui River, the Jiangsu River, and the Ren River. The upper reaches of the river are rapids, but the river is connected to the source of the Guijiang River, which is part of the Pearl River system, by the Lingqu Canal, and the middle and lower reaches have abundant water and are navigable.

中国、湖南(こなん／フーナン)省最大の川で、長江(ちょうこう／チャンチヤン)（揚子江(ようすこう／ヤンツーチヤン)）の支流の一つ。広西(こうせい／カンシー)チワン族自治区霊川(れいせん)県東部の海洋山西麓(せいろく)に源を発し、湖南省東部を北流、衡陽(こうよう／ホンヤン)、株洲(しゅしゅう／チューチョウ)、湘潭(しょうたん／シヤンタン)、長沙(ちょうさ／チャンシャー)などの諸都市を経て、湘陰(しょういん／シヤンイン)県蘆林潭(ろりんたん)で洞庭湖(どうていこ／トンティンフー)に流入し、さらに長江に流出する。全長856キロメートル、流域面積9万4600平方キロメートル。湖南省総面積の約4割を流域とする。瀟水(しょうすい)、舂陵水(しょうりょうすい)、耒水(らいすい)、水(べいすい)、蒸水(じょうすい)、漣水(れんすい)など支流が多い。上流部は急流だが、珠江(しゅこう／チューチヤン)水系の桂江(けいこう／コイチヤン)の源流と霊渠(れいきょ)（湘桂運河）で結ばれており、中・下流は水量豊富で航行可能である。
