Ammonium Bromide - Ammonium Xanthate

Chemical formula: NH ₄ Br. Colorless cubic crystal. At high temperatures, it has a rock salt structure. At 137.8°C, it transitions to a low-temperature cesium chloride structure, and at even lower temperatures, it changes to a distorted cesium chloride structure. It has a pungent taste. Like ammonium chloride (NH ₄ Cl), it dissociates and sublimes when heated. Specific gravity: 2.43. Refractive index: 1.7108. Solubility in 100 g of water: 69.7 g (15°C), 145.6 g (100°C). Soluble in ethyl alcohol, ether, acetone, and liquid ammonia. The aqueous solution of NH ₄ Br 3 easily reacts with bromine to form the addition compound NH 4 Br ₃ (ammonium tribromide).
