Lake Hibarako

Japanese: 檜原湖 - ひばらこ

It is one of the lakes and marshes in the Bandai Plateau, north of Mt. Bandai in northern Fukushima Prefecture, and is one of the three Urabandai Lakes. It is located at an altitude of 819m, has an area of 10.7 ^km2 , a circumference of 38km, and a maximum depth of 31m. Considering its area, it has a long shoreline. The Onogawa River, Okawa River, Okuragawa River, and Nakatsugawa River were dammed by mudflows caused by the eruption of Mt. Bandai in 1888, and the lake was formed along with Lake Akimoto and Lake Onogawa. There are many mudflow hills called "nagare oka" (flowing hills) in the lake, which are exposed above the water. In winter, the lake freezes over, and the ice becomes a popular spot for anglers. It is part of Bandai-Asahi National Park.

福島県北部，磐梯山の北側，磐梯高原にある湖沼群の1つで，裏磐梯三湖の1つでもある。標高 819mにあり，面積 10.7km²，周囲 38km，最大水深 31m。面積のわりに湖岸線が長い。 1888年の磐梯山の噴火で流出した泥流により小野川，大川，大倉川，中津川などがせきとめられ，秋元湖，小野川湖などとともにできた。湖中には「流れ丘」と呼ばれる泥流丘陵が数多くあり，それらが水面に露出している。冬季には結氷し，氷上は釣客でにぎわう。磐梯朝日国立公園に属する。
