A perennial plant of the Polygonaceae family that grows in the waterside areas of Honshu, Okinawa, and the Korean Peninsula. The stem is about 60 cm tall, and has alternate lanceolate leaves. From August to October, it produces beautiful pale pink flowers, which are rather sparse and grow in elongated spikes. The flowers are 5 to 6 mm long and have five lobes. Dioecious.
