Polygonum japonica

A perennial plant of the Polygonaceae family that grows in the waterside areas of Honshu, Okinawa, and the Korean Peninsula. The stem is about 60 cm tall, and has alternate lanceolate leaves. From August to October, it produces beautiful pale pink flowers, which are rather sparse and grow in elongated spikes. The flowers are 5 to 6 mm long and have five lobes. Dioecious. 本州〜沖縄，朝鮮半島の水辺にはえるタデ科の多年草。茎は高さ60cm内外，披針形の葉を互生する。８〜10月タデ類としては美しい淡紅色の花が，細長い穂状にややまばらにつく。花は長さ５〜6mmで花被は５裂する。雌雄異株。果実は平たい３稜形。
