This extensive archaeological site from the late Yayoi period spans Yokaichi-cho and Aikawa-cho in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The site is located in the alluvial plain downstream of the Yokaichi River, which flows through Kaga City from south to north and empties into Lake Shibayamagata. It was discovered in 1955, and excavations conducted in conjunction with the river's improvement work in 1963 uncovered what appear to be shell mounds and pit dwellings, as well as a wealth of other artifacts. In addition to many pottery items from the late Yayoi period, there are various wooden items, as well as some stone tools, bone and horn tools. One wooden item, a square rod-shaped item 14 cm long and 3 cm on each side, with a delicate vertical flowing water pattern carved into the side with a sharp blade, is a rare item from the late Yayoi period, although its purpose is unknown.
