Head of the Morita Theatre, head tayumoto and kabuki actor. The character "Morita" was used up to the 10th generation. (1) First Generation (?-1679? (Enpo 7?)) Second son of Bando Matakuro. Adopted by Morita Tarobei, founder of the Morita Theatre, and took the name Kan'ya. In 1668 (Kanbun 8), the theatre merged with the Kawarazaki Theatre and there was a year when the three of them - Morita Kan'ya, Kawarazaki Gonnosuke and Bando Matakuro - performed as substitutes. There are many unknowns about the background of the first generation. (2) Second Generation (?-1734 (Kyoho 19)) Son of Bando Matajiro and grandson of Matakuro. 守(森)田座の座元,太夫元,歌舞伎俳優。10世まで〈森田〉の字を用いた。(1)初世(?‐1679?(延宝7?)) 坂東又九郎の次男。森田座の創設者森田太郎兵衛の養子となり,勘弥となる。1668年(寛文8)には河原崎座と合併興行し,森田勘弥,河原崎権之助,坂東又九郎と三名代で興行をした年もあった。初世の経歴については不明な点が多い。(2)2世(?‐1734(享保19)) 坂東又次郎の子,又九郎の孫。初世没後,太夫元を相続,勘弥となる。
