Tanaka Eizo

Japanese: 田中栄三 - たなかえいぞう

Born: November 3, 1886 in Tokyo
[Died] June 13, 1968. Tokyo Film director, actor, and scriptwriter. He started out in the new theater world, and after receiving instruction from Kaoru Oyamauchi, he performed in translated plays. He joined Nikkatsu in 1917. He became a director the following year, and in his second film, The Living Corpse (1918, based on a novel by Tolstoy), he aimed for innovation in expressive technique. His major works include The Western Chamber of Commerce (20), Kyoya Collar Shop (22), and Dance of the Skull (22). His screenplays include Paper Dolls: Whispers of Spring (26), Five Women About Him (27), and he starred in A Woman's Life (49).
