A village in Nishitsugaru County, western Aomori Prefecture. Population 5,032 (1995). Located in the western part of the Tsugaru Plain, the southwestern part is hilly land at the northern foot of Mt. Iwaki, and the northeastern part is alluvial land. The alluvial land was developed by the Hirosaki Domain from the Kanbun era (1661-73) to the Genroku era (1688-1704), and thanks to its favorable climate, it became a grain-producing region. The hills have many reservoirs for irrigating rice fields, such as the Ezogatate reservoir and the Kodoroku reservoir. Yamadano in this area was a training ground for the Japanese Army, and was developed after World War II. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
