A poet of the early Heian period. Son of the inspector Fujimaro. His mother was the daughter of Kinona Tora. He served as a chamberlain, head librarian, Crown Prince's Chief Instructor, and other positions before becoming a Junior Fourth Rank Upper Right Guard Captain. He was one of the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets and excelled in calligraphy. He was one of the central poets of the Uda Emperor period, and 19 of his poems are included in the Kokinshu, but most of them were composed for the "Koresada Imperial Family Poetry Contest" and the "Kanpyo no Onto Tokikisai no Miya Poetry Contest." He has many famous poems, such as the one "Autumn has come, but I am startled by the sound of the wind" which is placed at the beginning of the autumn poems in the "Kokinshu", and he also has excellent love poems.
