Born: April 23, 1598, Brielle
Died August 9, 1653. Dutch military officer and admiral off the coast of Scheveningen. In 1609, he was captured by pirates off the coast of Guinea while sailing, and escaped two years later. In 1622, he joined the Dutch Navy, and in 1624, he became a captain. In 1637, he became a vice admiral. In 1639, he defeated a large pirate fleet off the coast of Graveline, and a Spanish fleet near the Downs in England. In 1652, he led a fleet that clashed with the English fleet under Admiral R. Blake, which sparked the First Anglo-Dutch War. Although he defeated Blake's fleet once in the same year, he was defeated by attacks from Blake's fleet in February and June of the following year, and died on board a ship in August after being shot by a rifle.

Tromp, Cornelis Maartenszoon

Born: September 9, 1629 in Rotterdam
Died May 29, 1691. Dutch military officer and admiral in Amsterdam. Second son of M. Tromp. At the age of 20, he became commander of a small fleet to suppress Berber pirates, and after participating in the Battle of Leghorn in 1653, he became a rear admiral. In 1665, he was defeated by a British fleet in the Battle of Southwold Bay. In 1666, he became an admiral under Admiral M. de Ruyter, but was expelled for disobeying orders in the Battle of Bergen. He returned in 1673 and distinguished himself by defeating the combined fleets of England and France in a series of naval battles that same year.

オランダの軍人，提督。 M.トロンプの次男。 20歳でベルベル人海賊討伐の小艦隊司令官となり，1653年レグホンの海戦に参加後，海軍少将となった。 65年サウスウォルド湾海戦でイギリス艦隊に敗れた。 66年 M.デ・ロイテル提督の部将となったが，ベルゲン海戦で命令に従わなかったという理由で追われた。 73年に復帰し，同年の一連の海戦でイギリスとフランスの連合艦隊を破って戦功を立てた。
