Qajar bureaucrat and historian. He is commonly known as E'ṭemād al‐Salṭane. In 1851, at the age of nine, he joined the first class of the Darol-Fonun Army. In 1863-64, he was posted as a military attaché at the Iranian embassy in Paris, where he stayed for four years. In 1867-68, he returned to Iran and became a French interpreter for Naser al-Din Shah, accompanying the Shah on all three of his visits to Europe (1873, 1877, 1889). His greatest achievements lie not so much as an official, but in the cultural work he carried out as a historian during his 25-year tenure as publishing director and minister (1872-96).

カージャール朝の官僚，歴史家。一般にエーテマードッサルタネE‘ṭemād al‐Salṭaneと通称される。1851年，9歳でダーロル･フォヌーン陸軍科の第1期生となる。1863∥64年，パリのイラン大使館に武官として赴任，4年間滞在した。1867∥68年，帰国してナーセロッディーン･シャー付のフランス語通訳官となり，シャーの3度にわたる訪欧(1873,77,89)にはいずれも随行した。彼の功績は官僚としてよりも，25年間におよぶ出版局長，同大臣の在任期間中(1872‐96)に行った歴史家としての文化事業にある。
