1877‐1949 Iranian philologist. Born in Tehran, he studied in London and Berlin in 1904, and after the First World War he settled in Paris where he conducted research from the end of 1940. He made friends with European Orientalists and acquired modern research methods, and made outstanding achievements in the editing of Persian manuscripts and bibliographical research, editing Juwayni's History of the Conquerors of the World, Nizami's Chahar Maqare, and the Poetry of Hafez.
