A member of the Cervidae family of the even-toed ungulate order. Body length 1.1-1.4m, shoulder height 75-97cm. A beautiful deer with white spots that can be seen in both summer and winter. There are three branches on the antlers, the first of which is relatively long. They live in large herds, sometimes numbering more than 100 animals. They are active in the early morning or evening. They are found in India and Sri Lanka, and live in forested areas. Introduced species have become naturalized in New Zealand, Australia, Hawaii, Brazil, Argentina, etc.

偶蹄目シカ科。体長 1.1~1.4m,肩高 75~97cm。白い斑点が夏冬ともみられる美しいシカ。角には3本の枝があり,第1枝が比較的長い。大群をつくって生活し,ときには一つの群れが 100頭以上になることがある。早朝または夕刻に活動する。インド,スリランカに分布し,森林地帯に生息する。ニュージーランド,オーストラリア,ハワイ,ブラジル,アルゼンチンなどでは移入されたものが野生化している。
